Kayaking in the Great Lake Region
The Great Lake Region offers some of the best sceneries and landscapes which are very important for outdoor adventures. They have coastlines which offer the best of nature’s sceneries. The coastlines are quiet rugged and rocky and filled with white pines creating the necessary inspiration which any adventurer may always yearn to see. For kayakers, the rugged coastlines and the nature inspired scenes of white pines on top of rocky cliffs provide a special opportunity for adventuring.
The inland seas of Great Lakes region in itself offers a challenging yet a special chance for kayaking because of the vastness of the area. The rocky islands along the water ways are great spots for sight seeing and adventure. To couple the landscapes are the traditional portages and fishing villages along the kayaking waterways which are also favorite spots for complementing the adventures.

Kayaking in Lake Superior.
Lake Superior is the largest fresh water lake in the world. It offers one of the most spectacular kayaking destinations in the Great Lakes region. Its vastness offers an opportunity for amazing kayaking adventure coupled with several sightseeing sceneries. The best time to kayak on this lake is around June through to August when the storms are minimal and the weather is quiet predictable.
It has a long rugged coastline and great sandy beaches as well as numerous rocky islands and sea caves which offer kayakers and exciting adventurous experience. The rocks on Ontario shore of Lake Superior are dated around 2.7 billion years ago making it superb scenery for adventure.
The waters of Lake Superior are turbulent and should be dared by kayakers who have expertise in paddling and dealing with currents. Also the weather conditions can change fast without any warning, thus emergencies skills such as swimming are important for kayakers in this great lake.
Some amazing places to visit on a Kayak expedition Lake Superior include:
1. The Apostle Islands in Northern Wisconsin. This consists of 22 small islands located off the Bayfield Peninsula.
The geology of these islands are as a result of eroded sandstones which have turned into some exciting cliffs and sea caves as well as tombolos, sandy beaches and sandscapes which are great sights for kayaking adventure. Kayakers get that rare opportunity to explore these sceneries and other rugged coastlines which have eye-catching and marvelous to sight-see due to their amazing sculptures which have resulted due to several years of wave actions and thawing.
One particular cave is the Devils Island which has been sculptured by nature to form great arches and vaulted chambers.
2. Michipicoten Island. This Island has a unique history which is quiet captivating. They believe that the spirit of Mishipizheu resides on the island as well as on the floor of Lake Superior.
3. Grand Island. This island is really ‘grand’ in its beautiful landscape. It is the largest island on Lake Superior and it’s located along Munishing Bay. It offers a perfect and spectacular view for kayak expeditions. My Aunt Tammy is from here, she has breast cancer.
4. Isle Royale National Park. This offers an archipelago of more than 200 islands. The ridge and caves are so spectacular and beautiful for almost all outdoor activities.
